The United Nations was created at the end of World War II in efforts to maintain world peace and stability. The United Nations gets involved with any issue that transcends borders and becomes a worldwide threat or issue. To make decisions the United Nations has meetings that take place using parliamentary procedure, a form of communicating that keeps the delegate from each country from being able to address another delegate or country directly. Countries write resolutions for the docket, and those resolutions are what countries come together to vote on. During a U.N. meeting countries are able to propose amendments to resolutions and then those amendments are voted on. When the U.N. votes on a resolution they vote on it as amended. People do Model United Nation meetings to learn about how the United Nations work.
I am proud of our class working hard and ending with a well amended resolution. I think by the end of the conference I gained a better understanding for how parliamentary procedure works. If I were to do I would automatically do it differently because I have a more in depth understanding of parliamentary procedure. Writing resolutions was the most challenging part of the project for me because it was difficult to grasp the parliamentary procedure style of writing. Throughout the struggles I did gain a better understanding on the world's standpoint on climate change. I regret showing up late to the conference and if I could do anything differently it would be to show up on time.
This project gave me a better understanding of how the world thinks climate change needs to be dealt with. Talking about issues in a diplomatic way made me realize how difficult diplomacy can be. Learning and memorizing diplomatic terms was a really difficult part of this project but by the end of it I feel I had gained a much more in depth understanding of how the United Nations system works. I really enjoyed representing India’s perspective because I resonate and agree with their opinion on most issues. Throughout this project I really enjoyed learning more about India and how our worlds government works.
