Chasing Coral uses photography in order to show the world how coral reefs are being affected by climate change. Not only is the photography documented in the film, the process the chasing coral team went through in order to obtain the images is documented. They documented 29% of the great barrier reef dying in 2016 due to rising sea temperatures, which rose as a result of carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions. The importance of these biodiverse reefs was shared in the film while the audience looked at strikingly beautiful images of these living organisms. Without Coral Reefs the underwater ecosystem in our oceans would be heavily disrupted and have a catastrophic domino effect on the rest of the world's ecosystems. Chasing Coral aims to show how climate change is quickly changing the world as we know it through compelling imagery, scientists opening up personally about their experience with these issues and scientific data regarding the rate at which coral is dying and sea temperatures are rising. Those are the movies strengths, which are all backed by powerful music. Unfortunately one can see how their methods contribute to climate change throughout the movie as well. Arguably it is extremely difficult not to be a contributor in this day and age. How ever they didn’t even comment on their movies wake of pollution, I do not doubt that it was as minimal as possible considering the passions these people all share. How ever I would like to take the emotionally moving strategies they used and propose a film or other project that would have zero impact or at least analyze and share what negative impact my project will have on the environment.
